Icelandic shipper acquires Dutch reefer firm

Rotterdam, Netherlands: Eimskip, the oldest shipping company in Iceland, has bought reefer forwarding company Extraco which provides services to importers of chilled and frozen goods in the Netherlands.

Eimskip has acquired 90% of Extraco Internationale. Extraco also provides import handling, warehousing, custom brokerage and distribution of bulk, chilled and frozen commodities in Europe.

Extraco was founded in 1991 and is based close to the port of Rotterdam.

Eimskip says that the acquisition will “strengthen and diversify the company’s freight forwarding services in the Netherlands”.

Eimskip chief executive Gylfi Sigfússon, said: “We welcome Extraco and all of its customers into the Eimskip group and know that the synergies, increased diversification and the valuable experience of Extraco’s employees will help us to further strengthen our forwarding operation in the Netherlands.”
