'cool supply chain the ultimate aim'

Cargolux Airlines International

Luxembourg-based Cargolux Airlines International S.A. is well known for its top-of-the-range solutions for the transportation of delicate and sensitive commodities by air.

In more than 40 years, Cargolux has developed a unique expertise in the handling of fragile commodities that require increasingly sophisticated logistics. Most of the time, airplanes are the best suited means of transportation and Cargolux’s 747-400 and 747-8 freighters guarantee optimal conditions. Four independently adjustable air-conditioning zones on board allow the transportation of different types of commodities on the same flight, while the enhanced range of the modern freighters has eliminated unnecessary fuelling stops, resulting in shorter overall transport times.

Cargolux is a member of both, IATA TTTF, the IATA Time and Temperature Task Force (represented by Franco Nanna as Chairman) and CCA, Cool Chain Association (represented by Stavros Evangelakakis as Board Member), who aim to continuously improve the supply chain of perishable items with the support of the industry, involving all conceivable stakeholders in the healthcare community.

The highly qualified Cargolux team of experts and their stringent Standard Operating Procedures ensure that temperature-sensitive commodities travel through an unbroken chain of temperature-controlled environments from the time they are accepted at their origin until delivery at their final destination.

“Managing temperature is an art!” says Cargolux’s Stavros Evangelakakis. “It is crucial that, from the moment the goods leave the plant or factory until they are delivered to the consignee, every single person involved in the transportation process understands the need of an unbroken temperature chain.  This awareness that our staff has established internally, is what we promote externally.”

Franco Nanna likes to describe Cargolux’s Cool Team mission as a scrupulous exercise: “There are things in life that may sound easy, but at Cargolux, we are dedicated and untiringly tenacious to achieve the service needed and expected by our valuable customers.”

Because the business of Cargolux is freight only, its schedule perfectly suits the specific needs of these challenging shipments: with Cargolux, temperature-sensitive commodities travel first class!

Fresh Information

Shippers, agents, transporters and consignees like to know the exact whereabouts of their shipments. And for temperature-sensitive cargo, they often request constant information on their valuable shipments. Cargolux informs its customers electronically about the status of their freight through its Cargo Handling And Management Planning system (eCHAMP), providing nearly instantaneous quotes, bookings, reservations and confirmations. Clients can access this information either directly or through CHAMP Cargosystems (CCS) and receive automatic status updates on the progress of their deliveries throughout the world.
