Board Member Spotlight: Stavros Evangelakakis

Get to know the CCA Board of Directors

Today, we interview Stavros Evangelakakis, Chairman of the Cool Chain Association (CCA) and Head of Global Healthcare at Cargolux Airlines.

With decades of experience in the air cargo and temperature-controlled logistics sector, Stavros has been at the forefront of driving collaboration, innovation, and high standards across the cold chain. Under his leadership, the CCA is working to increase its visibility, deliver tangible success stories, and inspire new members to join its mission. In this conversation, Stavros shares his journey from industry involvement to CCA leadership, his views on the most exciting innovations in the sector, and his advice for the next generation of professionals — along with a surprising personal fact that might just make you smile.

What inspired you to become involved in the cold chain industry, and then a board member of the CCA?

Since the beginning, Cargolux has been a member and supporter of the CCA. We have completed many good projects together, and when I was asked to become the Chairman, it was an honour for me.

What’s one strategic priority or initiative you’re most excited about within the CCA right now?

To drive the CCA to be more visible, achieve concrete success stories, and inspire member attraction.

What unique perspective or experience do you bring to the board?

Connecting people and having a good network, while being authentic in presenting.

What’s the most exciting innovation you’ve seen recently in the industry?

One of the most exciting innovations I’ve seen comes from SmartCAE, a valued member of our association. They introduced the concept of simulating packaging performance for the pharmaceutical industry. This technology allows companies to model and predict how packaging will perform under various temperature and environmental conditions before it is physically produced or shipped. It not only reduces the time and cost associated with physical testing, but also helps ensure compliance, improve product safety, and support sustainability by minimising waste.

How do you see the Cool Chain Association driving change or innovation in the coming years?

We could be a driver, but only if we succeed with something very special.

What advice would you give to the next generation of professionals entering temperature-controlled logistics?

Be curious, ask questions, and do your own research.

On a lighter note — what’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?

I am a shy person (I am sure you will laugh now, but it’s true!)

Working together to improve the temperature-sensitive supply chain to reduce food loss and waste in the perishables sector as well as benefiting the pharma community.
