London, UK: Eurotunnel reports an all-time record for Le Shuttle Freight with as many trucks carried between January and November this year as the full year before.
The Freight Shuttle carried 1,483,741 trucks between January and November 2016, the same number as in the whole of 2015
Between 1 January and 25 November 2016, 1,483,741 trucks were transported, the same number as in the whole of 2015, which was itself a record breaking year.
In the first ten months of 2016, Le Shuttle Freight grew by more than 12%, largely outperforming the market, which only increased by 5%.
Jo Willacy, Eurotunnel commercial director, said: “Our business creates extraordinary value for our customers who are themselves confident in their outlook for 2017. The investment programme we have pursued, will ensure that we are able to continue this growth through the coming years”.
The news follows the release of a report from Ernst and Young which found the Channel Tunnel facilitates trade worth £91.4bn per year, representing a quarter of all UK trade in goods with the European Union.
The report, Economic footprint of the Channel Tunnel fixed link, assesses the economic contribution of the Channel Tunnel to trade and tourism, and its role in the UK’s economic growth. It found that 30% of UK exports (£43.6bn) to the EU and 22% of imports (£47.8bn) from the EU depend on the speed ease and reliability of the Channel Tunnel, with exports through the Tunnel alone supporting 220,000 jobs in the UK.
