Becoming a trucks driver can be overwhelming for such drivers since new legislation has introduced digital tachographs, digital cards and driver certificates of professional competence . Even with ‘Grandfather rights’ to drive a 7.5 tonne lorry, drivers need a digicard and certificate of professional competence.
Alan White, managing director Fresh Logistics says: “We have a created a mechanism that can recruit and develop our van drivers to HGV drivers, starting with driving 7.5t vehicles.
“Once you have been driving the 7.5t, we will support you if you want to develop your skills to drive Class II and Class I vehicles.”

“Not only have drivers progressed through the class vehicles with us, we have also had drivers promoted to driver trainers and put through extra training such as forklift and food hygiene level two.
